Buffalo Bills Tickets - Tebow Not The Answer For Bills

Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly has made no secret of his support of Tim Tebow, helping to convince Buffalo Bills fans that he might be the answer to solving the quarterback issues that the Bills have endured since Kelly retired. Everyone knows that Tebow posted one of the best college careers ever and that he's a man based upon hard work and strong moral fiber. Even with such intangibles, however, Tebow is wrong for the Bills in just about every way that he could be, though he would have a positive impact on Buffalo Bills tickets.

This isn't to say that Tebow won't have a solid NFL career. From day one, Tebow is guaranteed to be one of the hardest workers on the team no matter which franchise selects him. In the current NFL, work ethic and willingness to study film far exceeds natural ability for a quarterback, which is easily the most complex and difficult position in professional sports. As defenses continue to get more and more complicated, a quarterback willing to put in the off-field work is a priority.

Tebow is also a very good athlete overall and had one of the best combine performances ever for a quarterback. This certainly doesn't automatically translate to success as a pocket passer, but those who say it doesn't matter at all grossly underestimate the value of having a good athlete at QB. However, his speed and strength won't change his mechanics, as he has a very slow release that he is trying to amend to appease critics. Considering the level of talent Tebow will be playing against in the NFL, a quick release is an imperative.

Unfortunately, the biggest problem that surrounds Tebow isn't his throwing mechanics; it's his enormous stature. To get Tebow, a team will almost certainly have to draft him in the first two rounds, possibly in the first. For a player with significant mechanical issues and a quarterback style that is a hybrid between running back and quarterback, a pick this high is simply too much of a risk, particularly considering there's a good possibility he will never be a starting quarterback in this league.

If the Bills were to draft Tebow, they would have to either use the ninth overall pick in the first round or another high pick in the second round – both of which being entirely too high. Considering the pressing needs that the Bills have on the offensive and defensive lines, in which they rank near the bottom of the entire league, the Bills have many big holes that need to be filled in the draft.

The other major problem facing the team that drafts Tebow is the talent level they can surround him with, as even quarterbacks without the mechanical problems of Tebow struggle on teams with bad offensive lines. David Carr could have been good for the Texans but never was able to develop because he was constantly on the ground due to a horrid offensive line. Recent rookie quarterbacks who have succeeded, like Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez, already had strong teams in place and were able to overachieve early on in their careers.

But if the Bills draft Tebow in the first 41 picks, which they would almost certainly have to do, there would be plenty of clamoring for him to start some time in 2010. The irony is that if the Bills land Tebow they will likely have to do so at the expense of building their offensive and defensive lines, making the chances of Tebow succeeding for the Bills very low even if he does overcome his mechanical problems. Tebow, more so even than most quarterbacks, would be better suited to get drafted by a team like Indianapolis or New England, where they already have a solid team and there will be no need whatsoever to push him to starting early on.

Moving to the NFL will already be a tremendous transition for a player like Tebow and it's difficult to imagine him succeeding on a team like the Bills until they solve the bevy of other problems they have. Even with Jim Kelly backing him up in Buffalo, Tebow is still a tremendous long shot.
