Velvet Underground Guitar Questions & Answers

Which bass guitar should i use?

I've played guitar for 4 years and I've became bored. I'm switching to bass because my band needs a bassist and I'm really interested in it. I need help with deciding on what bass to buy. We play stuff like The Beatles, The Doors, Cream, Nirvana, and The Velvet Underground. For this style of music, what bass should I use? I'm confined to a 500 dollar range. I was thinking a Hofner Ignition Violin Bass, a Squier Jazz, Squier Precision, or a Epiphone EB-3, but I have no experience. So what bass should I use?
Also, any suggestions on combo amps?

Now, I played guitar for 7 years and I never get bored. Anyways...Your decision also depends on what style of Bass you use, I believe that for this kind of music a 4-String Bass is the most suitable for you. I recomend you to get a Gibson Bass. The Style depends on what you like as long as it's a Gibson is cool. My friend plays bass and he owns the Nikki Sixx Thunderbass (You should know who Nikki Sixx is..) it's a great looking bass and since it was inspired by Nikki Sixx it sound great, but it's worth over $3000, :(

For your price range you should get:
Ephiphone EB-3 (Ephiphone is a brand assosiated with Gibson) It's a great looking bass and costs $499 it looks just like a Gibson SG (The one Angus Young Uses)

Also there is the option of getting a Fender Bass, but I wasn't able to find one under $500. I ussually visit this website: Samash.com

I FOUND AN AWESOME BASS: It's an Epiphone Goth Thunderbird IV Electric Bass (Pitch Black) It's a beautiful bass dude it's all black and has red detail in the deadstock. This is ONLY $254.00 Brand new and FREE SHIPING:

Sorry for making my answer sooo long, but I wanted to answer your question with EVERY detail I could use, hope this helped you! :D

What kind of Guitar did Sterling Morrison use?

He was one of the guitarists for the Velvet Underground. For some reason I can't seem to find this anywhere. Any info on his gear would be greatly appreciated.

well, you picqued my interest, so i searched around on the net and found an old picture of him circa mid-60's playing a Fender Jazzmaster, which is similar to today's Jaguar. Then I found another one of him from the chest up where the Gibson headstock is the only thing in the pic. It looks like a 1961 SG to me. Finally, I found a pic of him that looks like its from the 80's and he has a Strat.
